Who we are
We started our equestrian lives as competitors, then became breeders of performance horses and then we became stallion owners. So now we combine all three of these talents at Lougherne Stud.
 William started the stallion aspect of our business in 1998 with the fantastic Holstein stallion LIMMERICK (Lancer II ~ Caletto II ~ Landgraf). We are so convinced that the Holstein bloodlines are the best in the world for breeding jumping performance that we now have four Holstein stallions aswell as Ballinteskin Stud's CHICAGO (Concetto ~ Celano ~ Ekstein) who was born in Holland but has Holstein blood in his veins.
Thoroughbred blood is also of prime importance and we satisfy this requirement with racing blood of proven sprinter MOOTHYEB USA (Dayjur ~ Southern Halo) He is by a Champion & out of a Champion
Our pony stallions are both proven Champions in there own right. Our Connemara “mini Milton” BUILDERS DELIGHT has 1000 show jumping points and represented Ireland at the European Championships in 2005.While BRINKUMS HELMUT , who at only 6 years of age, is already northern National Medium Champion and 2006 All Ireland Reserve Elementary Champion.
 And for those wanting a little more colour in their lives then our tricolour tested HOMOZYGGOUS stallion SEMPERS SPIRIT (Owner Mark Shaw) is just the ticket. He is the only coloured sire in Ireland offering colour and performance. He has fantastic paces and is bred along the ‘Sandro ‘lines of Sacramento Song.
We have visitors accommodation for Clients flying in to view stallions or look at stock and we are surrounded by excellent pubs and restaurants and retail therapy for all is available! And for our Breeders we offer our BREEDERS AWARDS and the Lougherne PERFORMANCE MARE INCENTIVE SCHEME.
What we do
 At Lougherne Stud all our staff are DEFRA/DARD Approved Artificial Insemination Technicians who collect and evaluate the semen. Our on site Veterinary Team is Auburn Equine Clinic which is one of the top equine fertility practices in Ireland.
We are EU Licensed to import & export semen to Europe, UK and throughout Ireland. We offer a door to door delivery service for chilled semen and frozen semen is available through our continental agents. Mares are welcome at Stud. You can collect semen from Stud. We can ship it directly to you. Or you can choose to get your mare set up and A.I. with one of our Lougherne Agent Studs and Veterinary Practices throughout Ireland and the UK.
